INFORMATION CONCERNING SCHOOL WALKOUT

The following information concerning the national school walk out is adapted from the Time Magazine website

When is the national school walkout day?

The #Enough! National School Walkout will take place on Wednesday, March 14 at 10 a.m. across time zones. The walkout will last 17 minutes — one minute for each person killed in the Florida school shooting.

Why is there a national school walkout on March 14?

  • The walkout commemorates the one-month anniversary of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
  • Organizers want this protest to be a call to action for Congress to pass gun control legislation, according to the event’s website. “We view this work as part of an ongoing and decades-long movement for gun violence prevention, in honor of all victims of gun violence…”

How will the walk out be handled at my school?

The Clearwater R-1 administration will neither encourage nor discourage the student walkout, nor will they prevent students from participating or discipline them if they do. The administration will facilitate any walkouts so that they are carried out in an organized, safe and positive manner.
