FCCLA member Lydia Smith recognizes the negative effects military combat can have on our fighting forces that are physically unseen to most observers. Smith volunteers at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Cape Girardeau and the John J Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff. She recently made presentations to Clearwater Middle School students, providing mental health statistics on depression and suicide within the military veteran population. She calls students to action by joining her in volunteering services to area veterans homes, aiding the military men and women who have served us. Lydia explains, “When you volunteer, you can learn new skills, gain valuable knowledge, and meet amazing men and women who have sacrificed their time for our country. Also, when we volunteer we can all do our part in trying to prevent the statistics of veteran suicide and depression from going any higher.”
Students from Clearwater High School traveled to the St Louis County Municipal Courthouse in Clayton on Tuesday, Jan 23 to participate in a mock trial in front of the Honorable Colleen Dolan, Eastern District Judge on the Missouri Court of Appeals. History Club sponsor Mrs. Jessica Sentell organized the trip, providing valuable insight to the judicial process.
Shout out to students with 100% attendance for the entire first semester! This elite group earned a special trip today to see The Greatest Showman, a musical drama celebrating the life and times of P. T. Barnum.
