A voter registration drive was conducted by students at Clearwater High School last week. On Tuesday, November 3, Wayne County voters will be participating in a special election to decide upon a “use tax” for out-of-state purchases.

Commissioner Hovis made the motion to place an issue on the Nov. 3, 2015, ballot to read as follows: Shall the County of Wayne place a local use tax on out-of-state purchases to eliminate the current sales tax advantage that non-Missouri vendors have over Missouri vendors at the same rate as the total local sales tax rate, currently one and one-half percent (1.5%), provided that if the local sales tax rate is reduced or raised by voter approval, the local use tax rate shall also be reduced or raised by the same action? A use tax return shall not be required to be filed by persons whose purchases from out-of-state vendors do not in total exceed $2,000 in a calendar year. Commissioner Henson seconded the motion. The motion carried by vote: Commissioner Polk (Yes), Commissioner Hovis (Yes) and Commissioner Henson (Yes).
Mia Gayle and Tiffany Moyers arrived for choir rehearsal yesterday along with 250+ individual singers selected by recorded audition from more than 35 high schools. They will be performing this evening, November 2, with the Murray State University Quad-State High School Honor Choir accompanied by a professional orchestra.
The FCCLA sponsored Blood Drive will be held on Thursday, October 29 from 1:00-6:00 pm in the East Multipurpose Room (at the far east end of the Middle School.) Donating blood at this drive will help fund a scholarship for a Clearwater senior. The more units collected, the more scholarship money there will be.
Interstate Studio will be coming to Clearwater High School on Wednesday, October 28 to retake photos for those who were absent or were not pleased with their first pictures. High school club photos will also be taken at 1:30 pm in the high school gym.
The Mineral Area College Fair will be held on Tuesday, October 27. Over 70 colleges and technical schools will be represented. The bus will leave with seniors who have signed permissions at 8:30 am and return before school ends. Don’t forget to bring money for lunch.
As part of “Apply Missouri,” students are invited to wear their favorite team or college jersey/t-shirt/hat on Friday, October 23 and seniors are invited to the Senior Tailgate Bash during advisory/lunch. There will be food and college/career information for all seniors.
Apply Missouriis a program designed to help more high school seniors plan for higher education and submit applications to colleges and universities they are interested in attending. Clearwater High School has been participating in the program that will run through the end of October.
There will be a test prep session for the SCIENCE portion of the ACT on Thursday, October 22, 4:30-6:00 pm in Mr. Roach’s Room. Clearwater High School will be a testing center for the ACT this Saturday, October 24.
