Whippet Baseball/Blues Hockey fans didn’t have to choose which championship series to direct their attention toward yesterday evening. With storm clouds over the field in O’Fallon, officials called the Class 2 baseball semi-final between Ellington and Skyline shortly before the 7:00 pm face-off between the St. Louis Blues and the Boston Bruins. Although action occurred on the ice at The Garden in Boston, a Blues watch party sold out the Enterprise Center in St. Louis where fans were rewarded with a celebration worthy of the history-making 3-2 overtime win.
Ellington will resume play against Skyline at 11:00 am on Thursday with a tie score of 1-1 after 1 ½ innings. St. Louis will be back on home ice for the next two Stanley Cup games on Saturday, June 1 and Monday, June 3 at 7:00 pm.
UPDATE: Ellington won their semi-final game 11-6 and will play Seymour for the state championship on Friday, May 31 at 11:00 am.
