CHS PROSTART NAMED ONE OF 50 “PROGRAMS OF DISTINCTION”

Shout out to the ProStart culinary program, selected as one of Sullivan University’s High School Programs of Distinction (formerly the Elite 50 program) for 2020!

It is not the first time that ProStart director Christy Johnson has had the honor of accepting awards for the “top notch” culinary program she has been building since the 2009-10 school year.  Clearwater has received Elite 50 honors three previous times and in 2017 Johnson was recognized as the Missouri ProStart Educator of the Year.

The list of 50 programs selected for accolades is comprised of high schools and tech centers across the nation that excel in the areas of culinary arts, baking and pastry arts, and/or hospitality management.

Clearwater Boys Basketball Coach Zac Moore was selected to coach the Big 3 Athletics All Star Boys Basketball team. Clearwater athletes Taylor Hicks, Gage Keller, and Rachel Rowold were invited to play in the Big 3 All Star games which were scheduled for March 28 at East Carter High School, but were cancelled due to the COVID-19 quarantine. Hicks was also named a JCAA All Star selection.

Taylor Hicks scored his 1000th point on home court in the 3rd place game of the BRL basketball tournament and finished the season with 1,142 career points. Leading the Tigers in scoring that night with 37 points, Hicks became the eighth Clearwater boys basketball player to reach 1000. On the girls’ side, with one of the regular season games being cancelled, Rachel Rowold ended her high school basketball career 8 points away from the 1000 point milestone.

Sadly, many spring sporting events were cancelled,  including the entire spring baseball, softball, and golf  seasons. All Conference selections for baseball and softball were based on the fall season. Because Clearwater does not play a fall softball season, no CHS softball players were selected for All-Conference honors.
